Update on Partial-Wave Analysis
Partial-wave analysis is one step in a process connecting experimental measurements to the N states we are studying. Progress has been made in the area of ‘model-independent’ analysis. However, more model-dependent approaches are needed to cover broader energy ranges. An example of the problems faced by these more ambitious analyses is given.

We present a partial-wave analysis of the polarization data for the reaction ~ p~ p → ppπ◦, based solely on the recent measurements at IUCF for this channel. The fit leads to a χ2 per degree of freedom of 1.7. Methods for an improved analysis are discussed. We compare the extracted values to those from a meson exchange model.
